It is perfectly fine to knit with our soft and pill-free Heavy Merino from Knitting for Olive instead.
Celeste Sweater Junior is knit top-down with a circular yoke. First, the neckband is knit, then the yoke is knit in the round in pattern stitch with 5 different colors according to the chart. Short rows are knit after the yoke's pattern stitch to raise the back and thereby create a good fit. The body and sleeves are knit in the round in stockinette stitch and both are finished with a ribbed edge.
Be aware that pattern knitting often should be done on needles 0.5-1 mm larger than for solid color stockinette stitch. Therefore, make a swatch in both pattern knitting and solid color stockinette stitch before you start knitting.
Size guide
Celeste Sweater Junior should have a positive ease of about 15-19 cm relative to the chest measurement. Sizes 1-2 (2-3) 3-4 (4-5) 5-6 (6-7) 7-8 (8-9) 9-10 (10-12) 12-14 years correspond to a chest measurement of approximately 53 (54) 56 (57) 59 (62) 64 (68) 72 (78) 82 cm. The finished sweater measurements are given on the front of the pattern (note that these measurements only apply if the gauge is maintained). For example, if the child measures 56 cm around the chest, you should knit a size 3-4 years. A sweater in size 3-4 years has a chest circumference of 73 cm and will in this example provide a positive ease of 17 cm. If the measured chest measurement deviates from the age guide, you should be careful to adjust the length to the person you are knitting for. The same applies if the child is shorter/longer than average.
