Isager Jensen is a fantastic wool yarn, and as our master knitter Pernilla Sätherström expresses it:

- The wool yarn with the perfect stitch definition!

Since the yarn consists of three strands, it is a firm and round yarn that is very suitable for textured knitting. The texture is clearly visible in this yarn. The yarn has incredibly good durability and wears beautifully in the same way as Tvinni. We especially recommend it for sweaters used outdoors and for casual wear.

Petitknit has many patterns with Isager Jensen, often together with Isager Soft Mohair or, as in the Esther Jacket, knitted together with Isager Highland: https://60garnernord.se/products/kopia-av-agnete-cardigan-12?_pos=1&_sid=04f5600f1&_ss=r

The white wool comes from New Zealand, the brown and gray wool, which is also dyed, comes from Gotland sheep from Europe. The New Zealand wool supplier is associated with Wool Integrity New Zealand – a program that guarantees, among other things, animal welfare and sustainability.

Jensen Yarn was originally called ÅLJ yarn after the knitwear designer Åse Lund Jensen. Already in the 1960s, Åse Lund Jensen had a production of hand-knitted sweaters that she also exported. However, the Swedish yarn she used at that time was so heavy that the postage abroad became too expensive. This obstacle opened the way for the start of cooperation with Henrichsens Uldspinderi in Skive, which resulted in the slightly lighter ÅLJ yarn, which was somewhat thinner, and the development of the color range that we still use in both Jensen Yarn, Spinni, and Tvinni.

Collaboration with Camilla Vad

When knitwear designer Camilla Vad chose to stop selling yarn and focus on design, she offered her beautiful color range to Isager, and it is now included in Jensen Yarn’s color range with the numbers 0s, 4M, and 80 – 99. Several of the colors in the 80 - 99 range consist of a lot of white yarn that is first dyed black and then overdyed with another color, which gives the beautiful color play. Camilla Vad has designed many great models in the yarn. The patterns are available for purchase on Camilla Vad’s Ravelry page.

The colors are chemical, but the original color range, developed by Åse Lund Jensen, is based on plant dyes. The colors 0, 0s, 2s, and 3s are undyed and unbleached. The colors in the rest of the color range are Oekotex 100 colors, purchased in Europe, but since the spinning mill is not certified, we cannot use the Oekotex 100 label.

Washing instructions

Wool should be hand washed unless you have a washing machine with a very gentle wool program that can wash in cold water. Use an approved wool detergent. Keep the same temperature throughout the washing and rinsing process and finally do not wash above 28 degrees. The knitted garment can advantageously be gently spun after washing. Place the garment in a laundry bag or a pillowcase. After spinning, lay the garment out on towels to dry.

It is not necessary to wash a wool garment very often. Usually, it is enough to hang the garment up to air. Cotton yarn and blended yarns with linen and bamboo tolerate higher washing temperatures, but we recommend the same washing as for wool yarn.

Storage

Remember to store yarn and knitting in plastic bags or tightly woven cotton bags or in a plastic box with a lid. This is because Isager yarns are not treated against moths, as the available treatments have side effects for allergy sufferers and only last until the first wash.
