We have chosen to knit it in the pill-free, soft, and traceable Heavy Merino from Knitting for Olive.

The Scarlet Sweater is knitted top-down with a line of raised stitches along the front, back, each side of the torso, and along the inside of the sleeves. First, the upper part of the back is knitted back and forth, where a slope of the shoulder areas is shaped using short rows. Then an i-cord edge is knitted along the back's cast-on edge. Stitches are picked up for the shoulder areas, which are knitted separately back and forth on circular needles. These are then joined at the front to continue into the front piece. The front piece and back are then joined to continue the torso, which is knitted in the round on circular needles. The sleeves are knitted from stitches picked up along the armhole. The neck ribbing is knitted last from picked-up stitches.

Size guide

The Scarlet Sweater should have a positive ease of about 25 cm in the smallest sizes but gradually less in the larger sizes. The sizes XXS (XS) S (M) L (XL) 2XL (3XL) 4XL (5XL) correspond to a bust measurement, measured on the body, of 75-80 (80-85) 85-90 (90-95) 95-100 (100-110) 110-120 (120-130) 130-140 (140-150) cm. The measurements of the finished sweater are given on the front of the pattern. Note: These measurements only apply if the gauge is maintained. Measure yourself before you start knitting to determine which size will fit you best. For example, if you measure 90 cm around the bust (or the widest part of your body), you should knit a size S. A sweater in size S has a chest width of 115 cm and will in the mentioned example give a positive ease of 25 cm.
