We have chosen to knit it in non-pilling, soft, and traceable Heavy Merino from Knitting for Olive.
The Scarlet Sweater is knitted from top to bottom with a line of raised stitches along the front, back, each side of the torso, and along the inside of the sleeves. First, the upper part of the back is knitted back and forth, where a slope of the shoulder sections is shaped using short rows. Then, an i-cord edge is knitted along the cast-on edge of the back. Stitches are picked up for the shoulder sections, which are knitted separately back and forth on circular needles. These are then joined at the front to continue into the front piece. The front piece and back are joined to continue the torso, which is knitted in the round on circular needles. The sleeves are knitted from the stitches picked up along the armhole. The ribbed neckline is knitted last from picked-up stitches.
Size guide
The Scarlet Sweater should have a positive ease of about 25 cm in the smallest sizes but gradually less in the larger sizes. The sizes XXS (XS) S (M) L (XL) 2XL (3XL) 4XL (5XL) correspond to a bust measurement, taken on the body, of 75-80 (80-85) 85-90 (90-95) 95-100 (100-110) 110-120 (120-130) 130-140 (140-150) cm. The measurements of the finished sweater are indicated on the front of the pattern. Note: These measurements only apply if the gauge is maintained. Measure yourself before you start knitting to determine which size will fit you best. For example, if you measure 90 cm around the bust (or the widest part of your body), you should knit a size S. A size S sweater has a chest width of 115 cm and will, in this example, provide a positive ease of 25 cm.
