Athene Sweater - PetiteKnit

The Athene Sweater is knitted from the top down with pattern knitting. The upper part of the yoke is knitted in a solid color. The patterned part of the sweater is knitted in the round on circular needles and then cut open for the sleeves. You can also knit the patterned part of the yoke back and forth on circular needles so that you do not need to cut it open.

First, the upper part of the back is knitted back and forth, shaping the shoulder slope with short rows. Then the shoulders are knitted separately back and forth on the circular needle. These are then joined at the front to continue into the front piece. The front and back pieces are joined and continue into the body. Extra "cut stitches" are cast on at each side so that the pattern knitting can be worked in the round until the armhole is knitted. After that, the body is knitted in the round without cut stitches and finished with a ribbed edge at the bottom. The sleeves are knitted from stitches picked up along the armhole after it has been cut open for the sleeves. The double-folded neckline is knitted last from stitches picked up.

Note that pattern knitting is often worked on needles 0.5-1 mm thicker than those used for solid stockinette stitch. Therefore, make a gauge swatch in both pattern knitting and solid stockinette before you start. You can use the sleeve chart for the gauge swatch.

Size Guide

The Athene Sweater should have a positive ease of about 20 cm in the smallest sizes but gradually less in the larger sizes. Sizes XXS (XS) S (M) L (XL) 2XL (3XL) 4XL (5XL) correspond to a bust measurement of 75-80 (80-85) 85-90 (90-95) 95-100 (100-110) 110-120 (120-130) 130-140 (140-150) cm. The finished garment measurements are given on the front of the pattern. Note that these measurements only apply if the gauge is maintained. Measure yourself before you start knitting to determine which size will fit you best. For example, if you measure 95 cm around the bust (or the widest part of your body), you should knit a size M. A size M sweater has a finished bust circumference of 115 cm and will in this example give a positive ease of 20 cm. The measurement chart is available here.
