It is always a good idea to wash the garment after you have finished knitting it. This helps to soften the wool, even out the stitch pattern, and remove any excess dye or dirt that may have gotten on the garment during knitting. In addition, the garments look extra nice if you lightly steam them before use.
We recommend hand washing your wool garments. Soak the garment together with a mild wool soap. Gently press the water out of the garment by rolling it in a towel and then dry the garment flat on a dry towel. Feel free to shape the garment when laying it out to dry, so you get the correct measurements on the finished garment.
Yarn from Hillesvåg Ullvarefabrikk can be washed on gentle wool programs (wool cradle) in most modern washing machines. All machines wash differently, and we cannot guarantee that the garment will not felt in your machine. We recommend knitting a swatch and washing it in the machine before washing a whole garment. Wool can be spun in the spin cycle, but tumbling can cause felting. Always wash one garment at a time if you wash in a machine, and dry the garment flat on a towel. Yarn that is not superwash treated should not be washed on any program other than the wool program.
